The Best Pura Scents I've Tried: What I'd Buy Again and What I'd Skip

Seven Pura fragrances I have actually run in my own diffuser, rated out of ten, including the three summer scents I keep rebuying and the fall miss.

I love my Pura, but I've learned that picking the right fragrance makes a huge difference. I've tried scents that I immediately knew I would buy again, others that were good at first but I got tired of quickly, and a few that just didn't live up to what I wanted them to be.

So instead of putting together a huge list of Pura scents I haven't actually used, I'm keeping this to the fragrances I've personally had in my Pura.

Right now, my favorites lean heavily toward fresh summer scents, although I have found one winter fragrance that I absolutely love. Fall, on the other hand, is still a work in progress.

Here's how every Pura scent I've tried stacks up so far.

My rule is pretty simple: if I'm giving a Pura scent a 10/10, it's one I would genuinely buy again.

Volcano, my best overall

If you have no idea which Pura scent to order first, Volcano is probably where I would start.

It's a classic for a reason. This is just a traditionally great-smelling fragrance that I feel like you can never really go wrong with. It's one of those scents that works without me having to think too hard about whether I'm in the mood for it.

There are fragrances that feel very specific to a season or mood, but Volcano is much easier. I can put it on and know my home is going to smell good.

Best overall

Volcano

10/10, would buy again

The one I'd start with if you're ordering your first scent. It works without you having to be in the mood for it, which is more than most fragrances manage.

White Tea

White Tea is another one that has made my definite-repurchase list.

This is one of my favorite scents to use during the warmer months. While Volcano is the classic that I think is hard to dislike, White Tea gives me another option when I want to switch things up without moving into anything too heavy.

I've used enough Pura fragrances at this point to know that a scent has to be something I continue enjoying after having it run in my home repeatedly. White Tea passes that test for me.

Summer favorite

White Tea

10/10, would buy again

The one I reach for when I want a change from Volcano without going heavier. It survives running on repeat, which is the real test.

Sweet Grace

Sweet Grace rounds out my three favorite summer Pura scents.

This is another fragrance I would happily purchase again. And that's an important distinction, because I've tried other scents that I initially liked but didn't necessarily want another vial of by the time I finished them.

Sweet Grace hasn't fallen into that category for me.

If you're building a Pura fragrance rotation for summer, Volcano, White Tea, and Sweet Grace are the three I would personally start with.

Summer favorite

Sweet Grace

10/10, would buy again

The third of my summer three. I still wanted another vial by the time the first one ran out, which is not true of everything on this list.

Salt

Salt is good. It just isn't a 10/10 for me.

I'd give this one around a 7/10. I don't dislike it, but when I'm comparing it with Volcano, White Tea, and Sweet Grace, those are the scents I'm much more excited to buy again.

And that's really how I'm judging these. There are plenty of Pura fragrances that smell perfectly nice. I'm more interested in figuring out which ones are good enough that I actually want to spend money on them a second time.

Salt hasn't quite made that cut.

Would not repurchase

Salt

7/10

Perfectly nice, and that's the problem. Next to my three 10/10s it's not the one I reach for the money for.

Would I repurchase? Probably not. I'd rather rebuy one of my 10/10 scents.

The fall Pura scents I've tried

This is where I haven't found my perfect lineup yet.

I love the idea of switching my Pura over once fall starts, but the two fall fragrances I've tried haven't impressed me as much as my summer favorites.

Pumpkin Chai

Pumpkin Chai was fine, but that's basically my problem with it.

I wanted a fall fragrance that I was excited to have my home smell like every day, and this wasn't quite it. It gave me the seasonal change I was looking for, but I kept feeling like there had to be something better.

I wouldn't call it bad. I just wouldn't buy it again when there are so many other fall scents I haven't tried yet.

Would not repurchase

Pumpkin Chai

6/10

It gave me the seasonal change I wanted and not much else. Fine is not what I want my house to smell like every day.

I'm still searching for my 10/10 fall Pura scent.

Honeycrisp Oakwood

I actually liked Honeycrisp Oakwood at first.

The problem was that I got sick of it pretty quickly.

That's something I've realized matters a lot with home fragrance. A scent can smell great when you first put it in, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're going to want your apartment smelling like it day after day.

Honeycrisp Oakwood was one of those for me. I enjoyed it initially, but by the end I was ready for something different.

Would not repurchase

Honeycrisp Oakwood

7/10

Good on day one, tiring by the end of the vial. That gap is the thing to watch for with home fragrance.

A scent can smell great when you first put it in. That is not the same as wanting your home to smell like it every day for a month.

My favorite winter Pura scent

Frasier Fir

I love Frasier Fir.

If I had to describe why in the simplest possible way: it smells like Christmas.

This is exactly what I want my home to smell like during the holiday season. Some seasonal fragrances don't quite capture the feeling they're supposed to, but Frasier Fir immediately gives me that Christmas atmosphere.

It's also different from my summer favorites because I don't necessarily want it running all year. That's part of what I like about it. It feels special when winter comes around.

Once it's Christmas season, though, this is absolutely going back into my Pura.

Best for winter

Frasier Fir

10/10, would buy again

It smells like Christmas, which is the entire point. I don't want it running all year, and that's part of why it feels special when it comes back.

So what are the best Pura scents?

Of the Pura fragrances I've personally tried, there are four I would currently spend my money on again:

  1. Volcano
  2. White Tea
  3. Sweet Grace
  4. Frasier Fir

The first three are my favorites for warmer weather, while Frasier Fir is my clear winter and Christmas pick.

Fall is the category I still haven't figured out. Pumpkin Chai didn't do enough for me, and while I initially enjoyed Honeycrisp Oakwood, I got tired of it too quickly to want another one.

I'm actually okay with that. I'd rather keep trying fragrances until I find a fall scent I genuinely love than recommend one just because it's seasonal.

Is Pura worth it?

For me, yes, but the fragrances you choose matter.

I've owned and used my Pura long enough that this isn't something sitting unused in a drawer. I like being able to change the scent of my home depending on the season, and I've found several fragrances I genuinely look forward to using again.

The biggest thing I've learned is that I don't need dozens of scents. I'd rather find a smaller rotation of fragrances I really love and continue repurchasing those.

How I'm reviewing these

Every fragrance on this list is one I've actually used in my own Pura.

I'm not ranking scents based solely on their fragrance descriptions or including popular scents just to make this list longer. My ratings are based on something much simpler: how much I actually liked having the fragrance in my home, and whether I would spend my own money on it again.

I'll continue updating this list as I try new scents, especially because I'm still determined to find a fall fragrance worthy of a 10/10.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Pura scent?

Volcano is probably my safest overall recommendation. I gave it a 10/10, would absolutely buy it again, and think it's one of those classic scents that's difficult to go wrong with.

What are the best Pura scents for summer?

Volcano, White Tea, and Sweet Grace are all 10/10s for me, and all three are fragrances I would repurchase.

What is the best Pura scent for Christmas?

Frasier Fir, easily. I love it because it makes my home smell like Christmas, and it's one I plan to bring back every holiday season.

Which Pura scents are not worth buying again?

So far, I wouldn't repurchase Pumpkin Chai, Honeycrisp Oakwood, or Salt.

That doesn't mean they're necessarily bad fragrances. They just didn't make my personal 10/10 list, and I'd rather spend the money rebuying scents I really love.

What is the best Pura scent for fall?

I haven't found it yet. Pumpkin Chai wasn't quite what I wanted, and I got tired of Honeycrisp Oakwood. Finding a 10/10 fall fragrance is next on my list.
